ACRE/AKKO

ACRE/ AKKO is one of the oldest cities in the world, first mentioned in the Bible under the name Akko, the area assigned to the tribe of Asher (Judges 1:31) who did not succeed in driving out the inhabitants. Akko/Acre was an ancient Phoenician port then later a Crusader port on the Mediterranean Sea north of the modern port city of Haifa. It was the Crusader capital after the fall of Jerusalem. The Apostle Paul spent a day here at the port the Greeks had named Ptolemais (Acts 21:7).
